Description
Vector + Inverter Drive Motors
Industrial electric motors are available for most general purpose applications and processes. However, some AC Variable Speed applications require constant torque at zero speed.
Inverter/Vector motors are designed specifically for adjustable speed applications in a standard NEMA Frame motor.
Additionally, the AC Inverter/Vector Motors can be ran across the line for bypass operation and can deliver a 1000:1 Speed Range in a standard TENV or TEBC Enclosure.
Common Industries Include – Rubber | Automotive | Metals | Plastics | Converting | Pulp and Paper | Oil and Gas
Common Applications – Winders | Positioning | Extruders | Web Processing | Oil Drilling | Induction Servo Spindle | Test Stands-low / high speed
Advantages of AC motors in variable speed applications include;
Lower initial cost compared to DC motors.
Less maintenance because there are no brushes to replace, or commutator to resurface. Totally enclosed, high efficiency AC motors run cooler and stay cleaner inside, providing longer life expectancy than DC motors.
AC motors are more versatile. They can be installed in environments where DC motors are not suitable, and indoors or outdoors without special housings to prevent water entry. Where access to the motor is limited or non-existent, or where routine maintenance required for DC motors is not feasible, AC motors are an ideal solution.
Low rotor inertia delivers quicker acceleration and deceleration than DC motors. For adjustable speed applications requiring either variable or constant torque from low to base speed, an inverter drive is often the best solution.
For adjustable speed applications requiring full torque from zero to base speed, the vector drive motors are equipped with an encoder that provides the feedback necessary to interface with the vector drive.
Features of Baldor Inverter and Vector Drive Motors;
IP54 enclosure
Wound with Inverter Spike Resistant™ (ISR) wire, which is up to 100 times more resistant to transient spikes, high frequencies, and short rise time pulses commonly produced by inverters.
Premium energy efficient design utilising Class H insulation systems reducing cost of operation and increasing motor life.
Thermostats are provided between phases in the windings. Thermostats open at elevated temperatures prewarning approach to temperature limits.
For vector drive applications a 5-15Vdc , 1024 line encoder is standard for providing feedback information, The encoder is provided with an outer protective cover and leads are connected to an M.S plug. For invert drive applications no encoder is required. The encoder is electrically isolated from the motor. This assures accurate data transmission by reducing the electrical noise being generated onto the feedback circuit.
TEBC (Totally Enclosed Blower Cooled) motors (Cat#ZDMM) are designed for use indoors or outdoors in environments where humidity, dirt, lint or other contaminants may be present. A constant velocity fan on TEBC motors provides optimum motor cooling at all motor speeds. The fan motor leads are brought out through a standard half inch conduit nipple located on the fan housing. TENV (Totally Enclosed Non Ventilated) motors are rated for operation without a cooling fan. Cat#ZDNMM. Cast iron construction ensures high durability in arduous industrial applications.
