Arc Flash Detection Relays
Littelfuse AF0100 Series
- Cost-effective arc fault damage detection
- Continuous monitoring for fail-safe short circuit protection
- Compact design ideal solution for equipment manufacturers
Description
The Littelfuse AF0100 Series is a high-speed, arc flash detection device for electrical power-distribution systems.
The AF0100 Series rapidly trips when it detects the light from an arc flash. It detects an arc fault and activates the trip relays, which trips the circuit breaker(s) supplying the fault. In a typical system, a trip occurs within 5ms. The total arcing time is effectively reduced to the mechanical opening time of the circuit breaker, typically between 30 and 75 milliseconds. This reduces the energy of the arc fault significantly, increasing worker safety, reducing fault damage, and improving uptime.
The AF0100 features two isolated Form-C contacts (change over) for applications with multiple devices that must be tripped, useful for generator applications where the generator and breaker need to be tripped in case of an arc flash. It accepts PGA-LS10 point sensors and PGA-LS20/ PGA-LS30 fibre-optic sensors in any combination.
Using optical sensors rather than relying strictly on current measurement allows a much faster detection time than overcurrent relays or a circuit breaker alone can typically provide, as the light from the arc is unique to arc faults, whereas current pulses above the nominal level are part of normal operation for many systems.
Connect two remote light sensors to one relay. Connect multiple AF0100 and/or AF0500 relays to monitor additional sensors, and provide complete coverage for a wide range of applications.
A solid-state redundant trip circuit provides an internal fail-safe mechanism and fast arc flash response during power up. Front-panel and sensor LEDs indicate sensor health and fault location.
Use on AC or DC electrical systems and it can be powered from either an AC or DC supply, or both.
